Today, toxic substances that are formed in the process of rotting waste at landfills for solid waste carry a great danger to the environment. Waterproofing of these structures with antifiltration screens is the main requirement for their arrangement. Geomembranes of the Slavros brand in the construction of such waterproofs ensure the water resistance of structures and find their application not only at landfills for collecting and storing waste, but also in complex hydraulic structures without pressure restrictions (dams, basins, canals).
According to the design, impervious screens on MSW landfills can be:
  • unburied (with one layer of geomembrane without a protective layer);
  • single-layer (with a single layer of geomembrane and a protective layer above it);
  • two-layer (with two layers of geomembrane and a drainage layer between them);
  • combined (with a single layer of geomembrane and an additional layer (impervious to or protective)
Unburied impervious waterproofs without a protective layer are performed in places where there is no danger of damage to the geomembrane during its installation or operation. The area of the construction of unburied screens is decorative ponds, waste landfills, manure reservoirs, settling ponds.
Single-layer screens include a planned base of the landfill site (natural geological barrier), a leveling layer of compacted sandy soil, a layer of Slavros brand geotextile to protect the geomembrane and slope reinforcement, a layer of drainage Slavros Drainage geocomposite, a Slavros brand geomembrane. sand and gravel, drainage and protective layers.
 If the soil of the underlying or protective layers includes sharp particles, then the geomembrane should be additionally protected with gaskets made of Slavros brand geotextile to avoid damage. Fitting of geotextile sheets is overlapped without welding. If necessary, the removal of moisture at the base of the landfill suit the drainage layer of the Slavros-Drainage geocomposite.
The two-layer screen includes the planned foundation of the waste disposal site (natural soil), a geosynthetic mineral-based coating based on reinforced fiber (bentomat), a Slavros geomembrane, a Slavros geotextile layer to protect the geomembrane and a drainage sand-gravel layer

Two-layer waterproofs are used on critical structures to prevent toxic substances from entering the groundwater. At the same time, toxic substances that are filtered through the upper layer of geotextile in the case of the presence of defects in it are removed through the drainage layer. The material of the drainage layer can be gravel or pebble bedding, sand backfill (coarse sand), a drainage pipe system in combination with backfill. The advantages of the drainage pipe system are reliability, speed and ease of installation, reduction of the volume of earthworks.
The combined waterproof includes an underlying soil layer, a Slavros brand geomembrane (main working layer), an additional working layer, a protective soil layer and an additional protective layer.
As an additional working layer can be used fat clay, bentonite mats. Concrete, reinforced concrete, asphalt concrete pavements can be used as an additional protective layer.

Anti-seepage installations on hydraulic structures made of materials of the Slavros brand are subdivided into shields and diaphragms ensuring the waterproofing of structures. The shields are mounted on the surface of the soil structures: slopes, bottom or part of the bottom of the structure. The shielding of such objects includes the arrangement of protective layers, the fitting of the Slavros brand geomembrane and the preparation of the anchor trench for fixing the membrane.

Diaphragms are mounted in the body of the soil structures (dams, dams) or directly in the base soil in the form of a curtain.
