As the soil deforms, resistance to shear loads is mobilized in it, and soil deformations cause deformation of the reinforcement, which leads to a further increase in the strength of the reinforced soil.

The connection between the soil and the reinforcement is provided by friction, and the geogrids create a more reliable connection, which is due to the formation of the soil + reinforcement system (the Slavros SO geogrid).
