Geosynthetics are widely used in the design of both underlying and surface protective systems of polygons.
They include:
  • geogrids, which can be used both for reinforcing slopes under the waste massif, and protective soil layers over geomembranes;
  • geomembranes, which are relatively impermeable polymeric sheets that can be used as a barrier to liquids, gases and / or vapors;
  • geocomposites consisting of two or more geosynthetics that can be used for separation, filtration, or drainage;
  • geotextiles that can be used for filtering or as pads to protect geomembranes from puncture.
